A reading from the gospels. You also have the option of the extra extended readings to see the harmony between all four gospels of the same time in Jesus’ life.
A focus on a particular sacrifice that we can offer
A devotion on one portion of the reading
This is a 30-day reading plan leading up to and including Holy Week. The more we invest in each day, the more room we give God to speak. However, do not pressure yourself to do this perfectly. When we have an all-or-nothing mindset, we are much more likely to give it up when we feel we are falling behind. Don’t do that! If you miss a day or two, just keep going and do the best you can. And if you find one day that you can only read either the Bible passage or the devotion, read the Bible. That’s where the power is.
That said, give it all you can. Read slowly. Pray earnestly. Fast.
This devotional is simultaneously only about you and not about you only. (What??) Let me explain…
Have you ever heard a sermon and thought, “So-and-so needed to hear that one!”? Or on the flip side, have you ever listened to a sermon and thought, “He’s targeting me! It’s so obvious he had me in mind when he wrote that!” Friend, put both of those thoughts out of your mind. This devotional was written because we ALL need it. So you aren’t being targeted. However, I want to warn against a mindset that applies these challenges to other people and not to yourself.
I don’t know much about revival, but as I have looked at authentic outpourings of the Holy Spirit in the past, I feel confident of two things:
1) Revival cannot be manufactured. It has to be initiated by God.
2) Revival starts with repentance. And repentance should start with me.
